“I’m excited to join the Daybreak team and become a part of the Southeast Texas community.”

BEAUMONT, Texas — 12News is pleased to announce that Mark Armstrong will be joining the Daybreak team as co-anchor starting Monday, November 25, 2024. Armstrong is an experienced journalist and communications professional who brings extensive experience in both broadcast news and public service. To the communities of southeast Texas.

His journey to Southeast Texas is as exciting as it is diverse. From humble beginnings as an apprentice machinist at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he developed a strong work ethic that permeated his academic and professional endeavors. After earning a degree in history from the University of Southern Mississippi, Armstrong began his broadcasting career at WXXV in Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi, and made a name for himself at WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, he covered major events such as the election of former Governor John Bel Edwards, the Alton Sterling protests, and the 2016 floods.

Mr. Armstrong most recently served as chief communications officer for the Diocese of Baton Rouge and Baton Rouge East, where he led strategic communications regarding public safety and infrastructure projects. His decision to return to the newsroom reflects his abiding passion for storytelling and connecting with the communities he serves.

“I’m excited to join the Daybreak team and become a part of the Southeast Texas community,” Armstrong said. “The morning news is a chance to set the tone for the day and I look forward to delivering the news that matters most to our viewers, as our region’s rich culture and resilience inspires me. I can’t wait to get to work.”

News director Ginny Sweeney expressed her enthusiasm for Armstrong’s addition: “Mark’s experience and dedication to delivering meaningful stories will make him a great addition to the Daybreak team. His background in both journalism and public service will bring a unique addition to our reporting. He brings depth. People in Southeast Texas will immediately know about his commitment to this community.”

Armstrong joins Daybreak as 12News continues its mission to “put Southeast Texas first.” Watch Armstrong and the Daybreak Team simulcast on ABC12 and NBC12 weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. starting November 25, 2024.
