Two teenagers were shot dead and several others injured in what police called a makeshift club.
The shooting occurred just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Jensen Drive at Topping Street in Houston, Texas, during a party promoted on social media.
When police arrived, they saw people running from the building. Several people in attendance were injured and treated at the scene.
Houston police found a 16-year-old boy who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
A 13-year-old girl who was also shot remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The other two victims suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Assistant Attorney General Luis Menendez-Sierra is seeking witnesses who can provide information.
“We promise the public that we will do everything in our power to find out what happened here tonight, who did it, and bring them to justice.” “If you’re here tonight, I need your help.”
Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz were also at the scene.
“I’m here to support the first responders and learn the circumstances of this tragedy. To understand how such a quickie party was held,” Whitmire said. I’ll be following it for a few days.”
Fox 26 reported that there appeared to be no security at the event. Whitmire said, “They’re not here. They left.” The party was held in an empty warehouse and was an unregulated event.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told X: “Unauthorized quickie parties like this can quickly lead to chaos and violence. These parties often come together through social media. cause concerns, and teens should stay away for their own safety.”
