Alamo, Texas – In celebration of Red Ribbon Week, Farr San Juan Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD), in collaboration with the cities of Farr, San Juan and Alamo, will host the 23rd annual PSJA Tri-City Red Ribbon Parade. The PSJA Tri-City Red Ribbon Parade officially began as the beginning of the district’s Red Ribbon Week activities to raise awareness and promote the importance of living a drug-free life.
During the parade, more than 30 parade floats decorated by PSJA’s school and city partners celebrated this year’s National Red Ribbon Week theme, “Life is a Movie.” Drug-free movies. ” Along with campus bands, cheer and dance groups, students and staff displayed floats and paraded down Alamo Road for families and community members.
At the end of the parade route, representatives from Farr, San Juan and Alamo judged each float’s creativity and message to determine the winner of the PSJA ISD 2023 Red Ribbon Parade Float Contest. PSJA ISD also held a Red Ribbon Poster Contest, where one representative from each campus had the opportunity to show off their creativity by designing an anti-drug message on a poster. The top three regional winners were then invited to ride on campus parade floats.
For Henry Ford Elementary School student Sofia Pedraza, participating in the parade while spreading an important message served as a reminder to continue making healthy choices to ensure a bright and successful future.
“Red Ribbon Week means a lot to me because it means staying healthy and making good choices,” Sophia said. “I learned that saying no to drugs is important for my future. This reminds me that I can be strong too and support my friends in making wise decisions.”
Thanks to a committee comprised of district leaders, local law enforcement, and tri-city partners, the PSJA community came together to celebrate drug sobriety and emphasize the importance of making good choices even at a young age.
In addition to the parade, PSJA ISD will hold its 2nd Annual Trunk-or-Treat on Wednesday, October 28, 2024 in the PSJA Stadium North Parking Lot, giving families and community members a safe space to collect Halloween candy. while providing a safe space to collect Halloween candy.
