AUSTIN, Texas — Christmas Eve is approaching and preparations for tomorrow’s holiday dinner have already begun, but there aren’t any tomorrow’s meals in the city, or at least the help of Meals on Wheels Central Texas’ approximately 250 volunteers. Some people say they can’t eat without it.
“I thought this mission of this organization was what I was looking for, and it is,” volunteer Lucia Dodson said.
Mr. Dodson has been helping out at Meals on Wheels in Central Texas for many years.
“I’ve been with Meals on Wheels for 20 years, and this is my 21st year, so I’ve been volunteering since day one,” she said.
Dodson was inspired by seeing her mother-in-law in trouble. Dodson devoted himself to community service. On Tuesday, Dodson was one of more than 250 volunteers who helped distribute 3,000 meals to seniors in the area like Hilda Garcia.
“I love Meals on Wheels and I’m so grateful to be a part of the program. I love having them deliver food to me and I love chatting with them,” Garcia said. Ta.

To Dodson, Garcia is more than just the face of the community.
“I consider her family, I really do,” Dodson said.
Jake Peters, COO of Meals on Wheels Central Texas, says the power of a knock can change the outlook of a person’s day, especially this holiday season.
“We know how isolated it can be for people without family members, so it’s so important this holiday season that we put a smile on the faces of our neighbors on the other side of the door when we deliver a meal.” he said.
Tuesday was the last day for deliveries this week, but these meals will continue through the weekend. Service will resume next Monday.
