The joint law enforcement business led to the seizure of vehicles, gems, firearms and $4.8 million in cash, following an investigation into alleged distribution of illegal drugs through multiple smoke shops, authorities announced Wednesday.
The investigation led by the Texas Department of Public Safety involved law enforcement in Dallas and Kaufman counties.
Lawyers say the store is legally operated under Texas hemp law

The attack occurred on Monday at a company named Skyrice and ZRD’s Smoke Shop.
On Wednesday, a lawyer representing the company said the smoke shop was “a federal hemp small business targeting suspicious police actions.”
“Business owners have consistently demonstrated their commitment to transparency and compliance,” said David Sergi, San Marcos-based Sergi and Associates, in a statement. “He offered to share his books and tax records to show that he runs a legal company and is willing to work with law enforcement at all times. As a respected leader in the Texas hemp industry, he helped set standards of accountability and responsible business practices.”
Sergi said Sky Rise and ZRD smoke shops are “fully licensed retailers” that sell legal hemp products in accordance with Texas law.
“All products are tested by reputable independent laboratories, and companies hold certificates of analysis to confirm compliance with legal THC restrictions,” Sergi said.
Forney police discuss lengthy investigations leading to the attack
Meanwhile, the Forney Police Department said the attack followed “a lengthy investigation into the illegal distribution of controlled substances through multiple businesses in the area, including Forney Skyrise Smoke Shop.”

No additional details or potential suspects were released anytime soon to “protect the integrity of the process,” according to the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office.
In addition to the Texas Department of Public Safety, participating agencies included the Kaufman County Street Crime Unit, Terrell Police Station, Forney Police Station, Kaufman County District 2 Office, and the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation continues, officials said.
