Austin, Texas – The seventh Tennessee fell 3-0 to the 3-0 spot in the series opener at Red and Charlein Macombus Field on Friday night.
Lady Vols (32-9, 7-6 Sec) created opportunities all night, forcing Texas starter Teagan Kavan to throw 131 pitches on five career-high walks. However, Tennessee was unable to find the timely hit it needed, managing two base knocks and stranding multiple runners.
Texas (39-3, 11-2 seconds) broke through in three innings, plated all three runs with four hits. After hit-by-pitch and double-putt runner scored, Miascott delivered a two-run single before scoring on a base hit by Reese Atwood.
The Longhorns were threatened again in the fifth time, putting the runner in third place, but Ladyvols escaped with strikeouts and groundouts to finish the innings.

Junior Carlympickens got off to the start of Tennessee and were released by second freshman Erin Nuwar after pitching a scoreless first inning on a second strikeout and walk.
Nuwer avoided a leadoff bunt single with a clean 2 seconds, but allowed three runs on five hits in the third. She finished with one strikeout in two innings, lost and fell 5-3 in the season.
Freshman Payton Tanner came in fourth and quickly retired. Lake Jackson, Texas pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one hit in the fifth before giving way to Sage Mardiecco.
The runner was the third and one runner, while Mardjetko closed the doors with strikeouts and groundouts. The sophomore right-hander was relieved and sharp, pitching 1.2 hits innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
