GREENVILLE, Texas — A procession was held Wednesday to honor fallen Greenville police officer Cooper Dawson.
Dawson was shot while chasing a suspect Monday night and died Tuesday morning, the department confirmed.
Dawson was shot multiple times and returned fire. He died at a hospital from his injuries, but the condition of the suspect, later identified as Christian Robert Sparger, 25, is unknown.
The procession to bring Officer Dawson’s remains to Greenville began Wednesday morning, according to the Greenville Police Department.
The procession left McKinney around 10 a.m., passed through Princeton and entered Greenville on Highway 380. He then circled the block in front of the Greenville Police Department and headed west on Lee Street to US 69. From there, the procession continued south on the highway. 66 And I left town for Rockwall.

The procession came amid an outpouring of support for Officer Dawson and his loved ones.
Greenville Police say funeral arrangements for Officer Dawson are being made. His funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Lake Point Church in Rockwall.
