Austin – Gov. Governor Greg Abbott wrote to Vice President Steve Toss to thank him for highlighting unethical behavior by educators to “socially transition” students at Belail High School and notifying him of directing the Texas Educational Institution (TEA) to investigate the case.
“When a child enters the classroom, parents are not stripped of their rights,” reads the letter. “Schools should certainly not promote distorted concepts of human biology or push children further into gender discomfort. If the allegations against Bellaire High School are true, these parental guarantees are severely breached. Parents do not have to endure such treatment. This is another example of why I have been making school choices in Texas for a long time. To that end, I have directed the TEA to investigate allegations that Bellaire High School employees tried to socially transition their students.”
At Governor Abbott’s direction, the TEA has already launched an investigation to determine whether Beller High School educators have inappropriately “socially transitioned” students against the wishes of children’s parents who violate state laws that protect their parents’ rights and protect against child abuse.

In a state speech earlier this year, Gov. Abbott declared that Texas only recognizes two genders: male and female, and educators discussing gender transitions with students should be fired. In a joint speech to Congress last week, President Donald Trump also highlighted how teachers’ efforts to secretly transition children are a form of child abuse. Under Texas law, all licensed professionals in direct contact with a child, including doctors, nurses and teachers, may face criminal penalties if they fail to report such child abuse.
