AUSTIN, Texas – Lance Ames, CEO of South Texas Health System Edinburg & STHS Children’s, has been appointed to the Texas Hospital Association’s board of directors through December 2026.
Founded in 1930 and based in Austin, the Texas Hospital Association is the leadership organization and chief advocate for the state’s hospitals and health systems.
According to the THA’s website, the organization “empowers its members to improve the accessibility, quality and cost-effectiveness of health care for all Texans.”
THA is one of the largest hospital associations in the country, representing more than 85 percent of the state’s acute care hospitals and health systems and employing more than 400,000 health care professionals statewide, according to its website.
“I’m honored to be a part of this program,” said Ames, who began his career at STHS in 2013.
“I am honored to be appointed to the board of directors of the Texas Hospital Association, an organization that has advocated for hospitals, caregivers and support team members for decades to ensure adequate funding and resources are available to meet the needs of every Texas community.
“I look forward to representing the great people of the Rio Grande Valley and having a voice in health care decisions across the state, including in medically underserved communities.”
According to a press release from STHS, Ames “expanded hospital services at STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s, focusing on quality, compassionate care and oversaw the completion of the new $105 million patient tower project.”
The press release also noted that under his leadership, STHS Edinburg has been named a Best Community Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, the only hospital in the Valley to receive that distinction three consecutive years, as well as receiving numerous national accolades.
“During his tenure at STHS, he has been dedicated to supporting the healthcare needs of the ever-growing Rio Grande Valley region through the development of much-needed service lines for adult patients at STHS Edinburg and pediatric patients at STHS Children’s, the region’s first dedicated pediatric hospital,” the press release added.
