Kubrat Bawa proves that determination can lead to success while juggling the responsibilities of raising three young children, managing a household, and earning an associate’s degree in cybersecurity from the University of South Texas.
Bawa, who immigrated from Nigeria eight years ago, made the Rio Grande Valley her home in 2016, where she is currently raising her two toddlers and an 18-month-old. She embraces her community and builds a new future for her family while helping STC move her educational journey forward.
“As a married woman and mother of three children, I never thought I would pursue a career in cybersecurity,” the 29-year-old said. “But life has a way of surprising us. My curiosity about the digital world led me to discover a passion that I am determined to turn into a successful career.”
Bawa earned a degree in public administration in Nigeria, but after graduating, she chose to immigrate to the United States to live with her husband and start a family before having the opportunity to pursue a career in her field. I did.
It was last year that she decided to restart her career, this time in a field that had always interested her.
“One of the main reasons I chose to pursue cybersecurity was the need for a job that allowed me to work from home,” she explained. “Growing up, I have always been fascinated by technology and the impact it has on our lives.As I got older, I began to realize the importance of online safety and security.Cybercrime We have learned how vulnerable individuals and organizations are to attacks.
Dedicated to her family, she spends her days caring for her children and her nights immersed in her studies, knowing that her sacrifice will lead to a brighter future for all of them.
“I have to say this has been a difficult but rewarding journey. The classes are tough but they help build a solid foundation. I am determined to succeed and I work hard I intend to,” she said. “My family has been incredibly supportive and my husband and kids have encouraged me to keep going even when things are difficult. It gives me the confidence to believe.”
Having visited campus only twice this year, Bawa has embraced the flexibility of online learning and discovered the convenience and support it provides. At STC, she also found a strong and supportive community that helped her stay focused on her goals.
“Whenever I have questions, there’s always someone to help, like the financial aid team. They’ve been very supportive throughout the whole process. Everyone I’ve talked to has been great,” she said. added. “I’m excited to learn more about the latest threats and technologies in the field as I continue on this journey. I’m looking forward to gaining hands-on experience through internships and hands-on projects.”
Bawa wants to specialize in network management and security, is interested in learning more about programming, and hopes to secure a fulfilling job in the field.
“As a mother of three children, I want my children to grow up in a safe and secure digital world. By pursuing a career in cybersecurity, I also want to make a positive impact in my community. I believe we can,” she said. “I am proud to be a woman in technology and want to inspire others. I would encourage anyone considering a career in cybersecurity to give it a try. It’s a difficult field, but it’s also very rewarding.
