Have you ever heard of a restricted ballot or been asked to vote with a restricted ballot?
Texas voters who move outside of the county where they are registered to vote and are not registered to vote in the new county will be allowed to vote early in the new county with a limited number of ballots. Voters who register in a new county but whose registration is not effective by Election Day may also be required to use a limited ballot.
The restricted ballot would include all statewide elections, but voters would only be able to vote in elections in districts common to both their old and new addresses, and they would only be allowed to be used during early voting.
The Texas Secretary of State has announced the following conditions for using limited ballots.
A person seeking to vote on a restricted ballot is eligible to vote in his or her former county of residence on Election Day if he or she still resides in that county. A person seeking to vote on a restricted ballot must be registered to vote in his or her previous residence at the time he or she (1) applies to vote at his or her new residence, or (2) applies to register at his or her new residence. There is. That person’s voter registration will be invalidated in their new residence on or before Election Day.
The limited number of ballots can be used in person at a county’s main polling place or by mail if the voter requests a mail-in ballot by the deadline. In either case, the limited ballot application must also be completed before the ballot is produced.
A limited ballot cancels your voter registration in your old county and registers you in your new county.
A limited number of ballots will be cast in dedicated drop boxes, making it easier for election officials to reconcile votes.
