Milam & Green, makers of our favorite bourbon, is launching a new product aimed at not only showcasing Texas’ environmental conditions but also supporting parks and wildlife conservation efforts. Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon is the fourth product in the brand’s 2024 Wildlife Collection and is dedicated to Texas birds, specifically the beloved roadrunner.
“The Wildlife Collection single barrel release is a case study in how the Texas heat cycle affects flavor development,” explains Heather Green, CEO of Milam & Green Whiskey. “Milam & Green’s rick houses are not temperature controlled, so as temperatures rise, the whiskey expands into the pores of the barrel, reacting with the oak and extracting compounds. As temperatures drop, the liquid contracts, allowing the whiskey to seep out of the wood, creating intense, complex aromas and flavors that make each barrel of this whiskey unique. Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon has endured one of Texas’ hottest, driest summers, as well as several cold snaps.”
This new release is made from Single Cask #507, of which only 143 bottles were produced, and is crafted using a mashbill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. This bourbon has a high alcohol content of 65.05% and was aged for a total of 8 years at the Tennessee distillery and Milam & Green Rickhouse 1 in Texas. It features aromas of leather and fruit, flavors of cherry and vanilla, and a sweet maple syrup finish. It will be available on August 21 at 3:00 PM CST.
The release is named after a large ground-dwelling bird that lives in the area, and a portion of the proceeds from the release will be donated to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation. “Roadrunners patrol our distillery grounds in Blanco during the warm summer months, searching for small snakes and lizards,” said Milam & Green Whiskey Distillery Manager Rick Munro.
“Our favourite of the birds has been affectionately named ‘Meep-Meep’ because, just like the famous cartoon Road Runner, he loves to show off his blazing speed to visitors. We expect this new release to sell out as fast as ‘Meep-Meep’ runs around the distillery grounds, so we encourage all clever whiskey lovers to mark their calendars for a wild chase.”
