SAN ANTONIO – A California vegetable company says some broccoli florets sold in Texas may contain Listeria monocytogenes.
Braga Fresh, which issued this advisory on December 27, 2024, announced that the Texas Department of Health and Human Services will be distributing 12-ounce, pre-cleaned, ready-to-eat Marketside Broccoli Flows sold at Walmart stores across the state. He said he tested Rhett.
The company said one of these samples tested positive for Listeria.
The Food and Drug Administration confirmed the Bragafresh recommendation on December 31, 2024.
Braga Fresh said Marketside’s 12-ounce bags of broccoli florets can be identified by the following identifier:
UPC 6 81131 32884 5 is written on the back of the bag
The front of the bag has a “best before” date of December 10, 2024 and lot code: BFFG327A6.
The company said that while broccoli florets are no longer in Walmart stores, it is also aware of shoppers who may have frozen broccoli florets for future use.
Braga Fresh said such consumers should not consume the broccoli florets and should throw them away.
The listeria advisory does not apply to other market sides or products produced at Braga Fresh, the company said.
According to the FDA, people infected with Listeria monocytogenes may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Listeria monocytogenes can also cause serious and fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, the agency said.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with Braga Fresh Marketside broccoli florets, the company said in a news release.
In addition to Texas, broccoli florets were sold in 19 other states, including Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
