MCALLEN, Texas – The Children’s Bereavement Center is proud to announce a candlelight vigil in honor of Children’s Grief Awareness Day. This meaningful event will be held at both our McAllen and Harlingen stores on November 21, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. This vigil is open to the community and aims to support children and families who have experienced loss and provide a caring space for mourning and healing.
Children’s Grief Awareness Day, held on the third Thursday of November each year, draws attention to the unique and serious challenges faced by grieving children. The day aims to help children cope with loss and feel seen, valued and understood through community support and awareness.
This year’s Candle Vigil will feature a shared experience, a candle-lighting ceremony, and a symbolic ceremony where participants can write messages to their loved ones as a sign of remembrance and peace. Special guests will be in attendance to show their support, including representatives from the McAllen ISD Police Department, McAllen Fire Department, and other community organizations.
“We invite all members of the community to join us for this meaningful evening,” said Administrative Manager Noelyn Giramak-Lasos. “Children’s grief is often overlooked, but events like this remind us that our support can make a big difference. This wake was a respectful and memorable moment. It also builds a caring network for healing.”
