Chevrolet EV owners in Texas who rely on Reliant as their power provider can now charge their vehicles overnight using renewable energy for free.
More than 150 Chevrolet dealers across Texas are now offering the Reliant Free Charge Night Plan to new EV buyers. Free Charge Nights allows customers to offset their charging costs by receiving credits for the electricity they use between 11pm and 6am. The scheme will be powered entirely by renewable energy through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Rasesh Patel, president of NRG Consumer, said the plan is to make power personal, “helping Chevrolet EV drivers offset the cost of charging their vehicles while accessing renewable power plans. I’m excited to be able to do it.”
The partnership aims to make EV adoption more attractive by making charging cheaper and more environmentally friendly. GM Energy Chief Revenue Officer Aseem Kapur emphasized that partnerships like this will help build the ecosystem needed to support an all-electric future. “The Reliant Free Charge Night Plan shows how automakers and energy companies can work together to make EV adoption decisions easier.”
Existing Reliant customers can also sign up for the Free Charge Nights plan. First, Chevrolet EV owners must specify their vehicle in the GM Energy Smart Charging Portal before enrolling in the plan.
Reliant Energy, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, serves more than 1.5 million customers in Texas and is one of the state’s largest electric utilities.
