EDINBURG, Texas – As the holidays approach, City of Edinburg officials are working to ensure city residents can safely enjoy a Thanksgiving meal through the 13th annual Edinburg Cares Food Drive .

Staff will work with Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District and HEB to distribute 1,000 turkeys and 1,000 food baskets to pre-selected families in Edinburg on Saturday, November 23, 2024. The Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department will hold a kickoff ceremony at 9 a.m. at 315 Mark S. Pena Drive before crews begin deliveries.

The community is encouraged to donate non-perishable foods such as canned fruits and vegetables, stuffing and gravy mixes until November 15, 2024.

Donation boxes are located at the following locations: Edinburg City Hall, 415 W. University Drive Edinburg Police Department, 1702 S. Closner Boulevard Central Fire Station, 212 W. McIntyre Street Edinburg Parks and Recreation, 315 Mark S. Pena DriveHidalgo County Precinct 4, 1051 N. Doolittle RoadTexas Barbershop, 1303 S. McColl RoadDustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library, 1906 S. Closner BoulevardAll ECISD Schools

The City of Edinburg also needs volunteers to help sort cans, fill food baskets and make deliveries. For more information about volunteering, please call (956) 381-5631.
