School was closed for the day after a Texas police officer shot and killed a man at an El Paso high school.
The Thursday, Aug. 22 shooting was reported by KTSM, CBS4 and the El Paso Times, citing El Paso Independent School District Police Chief Manuel Chavira.
Chavira reportedly said the man who was killed was in his 50s and was on the grounds of Franklin High School. No students were harmed in the incident, which happened just before 6 a.m., The Times reported.
Chavira reportedly said a group of cross-country runners were on campus at the time but were not near the scene of the shooting, which was then sealed off.
The identity of the man who was killed has not been released, and police have not disclosed what events preceded the shooting.

“El Paso Independent School District Police were involved in a shooting at Franklin High School while investigating an early morning incident,” school district police said in a statement reported by CBS 4. “This incident did not involve students and there is no danger to the community, students or staff.”

“One person died as a result of this incident,” the statement continued. “An outside agency is assisting the El Paso Independent School District in the investigation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”
KTSM reported that schools may reopen on Friday, August 23rd.
