CLEMSON — Clemson not only plays the No. 5 seed Texas Longhorns in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday; They also have to face the harsh environment of Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium.
But don’t worry, the Tigers are excited about it. Linebacker Barrett Carter believes this is an opportunity to prove he can be successful anywhere. So far this season, No. 12 seed Clemson is 4-0 in road games.
“That’s the key emphasis going into the season, great teams win on the road, We’re just trying to show that we’re a great team and that we can be,” Carter said. “We’re excited to step into an environment where everyone hates us. We know it’s going to be hostile, loud and crazy.
“But you come to a place like Clemson and So that I can play in these big games and travel to these places and play on high stages, I I’m very excited. ”
The Tigers’ only loss at Memorial Stadium was against second-seeded Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It happened in the first week of the season.
Clemson’s success on the road for the first time since the game against Georgia in Atlanta gave quarterback Cade Klubnik and the Tigers confidence heading into their next matchup in Austin.
“We’ve had success on the road, and that’s definitely something we (emphasized) this offseason to change from last year to this year heading into this season,” he said. “You’ve got to love it. That’s college football…playing in front of a crowd of 100,000 people and everyone going against you. It’s fun. It’s a really good time.”
The Tigers hope to have a great time when they travel to Austin, Texas for the first round of the CFP. Kickoff is set for 4pm (TNT).
