Sen. Ted Cruz occasionally attends sporting events in Texas, and often, but not always, when he attends the game in person, the Texas team loses.
But things have been especially bad when it comes to college football, and Texas A&M University football fans are bracing themselves for Saturday.
According to Carter Carrels of GigEm247, the TAMU affiliate of 247Sports, Cruz and Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts will speak with the media at Kyle Field in College Station before the No. 20 Aggies open their season in Week 1 at home against No. 7 Notre Dame.
While non-Texas A&M fans are thrilled, Texas A&M fans are dreading it because Cruz will likely be in attendance for the 7:30 pm ET kickoff.
Of course, Texas teams don’t always lose when Cruz is in attendance, but as Business Insider pointed out earlier this year, college football teams don’t perform very well when Cruz is in attendance: Over the last decade, Cruz has reportedly attended eight college football games against Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M, yet the Lone Star State’s teams are 1-7. Not very good.
College football fans are well aware of this trend, so jokes and predictions were made in response to Cruz’s planned appearance at the Texas A&M game on Saturday, while Aggies fans begged him not to come.
