Will Robinson, a Durant High School coach and Christian faith leader, lost his life in an accident that left his family in critical condition at an Oklahoma hospital. The single-vehicle incident reportedly occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
Robinson was driving a white Chevrolet Traverse with his wife and four children at the time. However, it was raining heavily in the area, so when they reached US-75 and Taylor Street, the vehicle veered off the roadway and into a drainage ditch. Two bodies were reportedly missing at the time, but one was found several hours later.
As tributes pour in on social media, this is all we know about Will Robinson’s death
Sherman Fire and Police were responding to a 911 call on the morning of Dec. 24, KXII reported. Detective Inspector Samuel Boyle said in a statement:
“The vehicle ran off the road and became entangled in a drainage ditch near US-75 and Taylor Street.”
The car was swept away by strong currents and came to a halt just before reaching Houston Street, the report said. The family was reportedly trapped inside by the current, and although they were able to revive four of the six people, Will Robinson and one of his children, a girl, were unable to be revived. According to Trek London, Will’s body was found, but his daughter’s was missing.
“That extends to areas where everyone wants to look for shark teeth,” Boyle said. “It’s getting a little bit wider, so the water is going a little slower. We’ll keep going south as far as we need to until we find the two missing people.”
As for what happened to the car when it was stranded, Boyle continued:
“This probably has something to do with a lot of water building up and maybe hydroplaning. It’s a very dangerous situation. Once they get into that drain, they actually have to deal with the flow of water. And you’re at the mercy of that speed.” That’s a tragedy, it really is. ”
As investigations into the matter continue, Mr Boyle is urging all drivers to use caution during wet weather.
“Please drive with extreme caution. Even if you think you can drive through a large standing water, consider detouring and taking a different route. , you actually lose control of the car.”
