wood building – Woodville City Council held its regular monthly meeting last Tuesday night to discuss various items for council approval.
Mayor Amy Bythewood opened the meeting with a proclamation honoring November’s Native American Heritage Month. The City Council then quickly approved a resolution authorizing the submission of the Texas Regional Development Block Grant application to the Texas Department of Agriculture for Regional Development Funds. This grant is for $750,000 and typically has a match of approximately 20%.
The City Council approved the final zoning of 0.0997 acres of land subdivided within the aforementioned Corpus Real Estate subdivision, which is located next to the MLK City Park. The City Council next discussed options and funding for the proposed trap-neuter-neuter (TNR) cat management program for 3.1 square miles of outdoor free-ranging cats within the Woodville city limits. Approved the appointment of a committee to discuss the possibility. Kathy Taylor brought her furry felines to an October City Council meeting to speak about the need. The council approved a committee consisting of Councilors Paula Jones, Kelly Dillard and the mayor.
The City Council then discussed the need to approve the city’s Tik Tok policy. Prior to the discussion, Bythewood said TML last year required all cities in Texas to implement a Tik Tok policy by November 20, 2024, in line with a law passed in 2023. said.
City Administrator Mandy Reisinger explained, “The best course of action to be compliant would be for Brad (City Attorney Brad Elrod) to create a policy and implement it in accordance with TML policy.” Why this needed to be done will become clear in the future. She added, “There’s going to be an auditor. It might not be this year, it might not be next year. And at some point I’m going to ask Terry (Bible), ‘Hey, do you have a policy for Tik Tok?’ Probably,” he added. Then she hands it to them and they check it off the list. Congress ultimately approved a motion authorizing Brad Elrod to create policy in this regard.
Several matters of interest to the community were highlighted and everyone had questions about holiday activities at the courthouse. The annual lighting of the courthouse is scheduled for December 6th, and the 7th will be packed with all sorts of fun activities, starting with Rotary’s Breakfast with Santa that morning.
Although the election results had not yet been scrutinized, Bythewood, Dillard, and Mike Cabaniss all retained their seats on the City Council, each serving an additional two-year term in Woodville.
