Houston police say the suspect is still at large and witnesses told KHOU 11 News they heard multiple gunshots.
HOUSTON — Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed at an apartment complex in northwest Houston Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened at the Golden Bamboo Village Apartments on Mills Road near Highway 249 and Willowbrook Mall.
According to Houston police, around 2 p.m., a man believed to be in his 30s was outside in a parking lot when another man, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, approached him and struck up a conversation. Police do not know what they were talking about or if there was an argument.
“At this point, we don’t really know if it was some kind of consensual meeting between the parties or if there was something else going on. We still don’t know why it happened. We are investigating,” Houston said. Police homicide detective Michael Barrow said:
Witnesses then heard gunshots and saw the suspect leave the scene on foot. One witness told KHOU 11 News he heard five to six gunshots.
Bobby Johnson also lives in the apartment complex and said he heard gunshots. Johnson, who works as a nursing technician, said she took action to try to save the victim’s life.
“I was trying to talk to him, check his pulse and everything, but he was already gone,” Johnson said. “I’m so scared. I couldn’t believe he died while I was trying to help him. He died right in front of me. It’s shocking.”
Johnson said he was shocked that such violence occurred in the place he has called home for more than a decade.
“We’ve never had anything like that happen here. Like I said, I’ve been here since 2013 and we’ve never had anything like that happen here,” Johnson said. . “I can’t believe someone shot a person, a human being. It’s very, very, very difficult. I’m shaking beyond words.”
It is unclear whether the suspect lived in the apartment. However, the victim’s family told KHOU 11 News at the scene that their loved one did not live in the apartment.
