Texas Children’s Hospital announced in a news release Sept. 12 that current president Debra Skinn will be promoted to CEO of the hospital network, succeeding longtime CEO Mark Wallace.
In case you missed it
Skinn will become president of Texas Children’s Hospital in September 2023 and has begun working under Wallace to prepare to succeed him.
“Ever since I announced my election as president last year, I’ve been thinking long and hard about when my last day would be,” Wallace said. “I knew then that my final chapter would begin, and I’m so pleased that it all worked out.”
Wallace announced that he will step down from his position as CEO after 35 years, effective Oct. 4. Skinn will officially begin his role on Oct. 5. Prior to joining Texas Children’s, Skinn served as executive vice president of the Houston Methodist System and CEO of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. Skinn also served as senior vice president of St. Luke’s Health System in the Texas Medical Center.
In their own words
“It has been an honor to work alongside Mark Wallace over the past year, and I want to thank him for his visionary leadership in growing the world’s largest women’s and children’s hospital,” said Skinn. “I look forward to building on Texas Children’s’ 70-year history of providing clinical, educational and research excellence to patients around the world and leading it into the future.” “As I embark on this new season, which will include more time with my wife, family and friends, and some new adventures, I leave with a heartfelt thank you and gratitude for my incredible team,” said Wallace. “Mark has been the heart and soul of Texas Children’s Hospital for decades, and his retirement, while well-deserved, is truly bittersweet,” said Tim Tomber, vice chairman of the Texas Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees. “On behalf of the entire board, I sincerely thank Mark for his 35 years of incredible leadership and have every confidence in Debbie Skinn’s vision, business acumen and dedication to our mission. What’s next?
Skinn will remain acting president of Texas Children’s Hospital and will assume all CEO duties on October 5.
