In September 2024, a group of 17 states filed a lawsuit against the US government known as Texas vs. Bekera. The lawsuit asks the court to remove Section 504 and its regulations. Section 504 is the main civil rights law for people with disabilities. Section 504 ensures that persons with disabilities are treated fairly and included in school and physician appointments. Losing Section 504 would be a major civil rights devastating loss for the disabled community. This community briefing, and our Protect 504 page, explains:
What is Section 504 and why it is so important to the disability community, what the new Section 504 regulations say, and why they are good for the disability community, to stop what community members can do in the Texas v. Bekera lawsuit What can you do to attack section 504
