COPPEL, Texas – Doorbell camera video from last November became important evidence in an ongoing police investigation. Victim Carol Barghese says a group of teenagers repeatedly targeted her home for weeks late at night.
“We knocked on the door between 7pm and 3am and scared us. We called the police every time,” Carol Barghese said.
According to Varghese, the harassment escalated, with the suspect throwing nasty substances into her home and screaming racial slander. The latest incident has led to a dangerous turnaround.
“They broke the glasses, they could see them flying, they could hear them laughing and running away,” she said.
Valghese, who lives in a lake in the Coppel area, said he felt safe all the way up to these incidents. One video believes one of the suspects is recording the attack. So did her fears as the vandalism got worse.
“Even today, we are still afraid because there are still holes in our doors,” Valghese said.
To draw attention to the situation, Barghese posted videos and photos of the suspect on social media. That was made by other victims, including John Jun, whose wife’s car was destroyed. He spotted her car covered in sticky material. Even after washing multiple car washes, no adhesive material was washed away. He hopes that the parents of responsible children will address their actions with harsh love.
“This is just a child beyond children,” John Jun said.
Jun expressed his disappointment at what happened. He and Carol have been in contact with him, and he has pledged to support her efforts to prevent the suspect from running away by covering the costs of the damages.
“I was disappointed in that sense, in that sense, the community I really love and care for,” he said.
Coppel police were able to review the video footage and identify one of the teenagers and lead them to others. Now everything is under investigation for criminal mischief.
Officials are asking other residents to move forward if there is a doorbell video to help investigate.
“Tell us a message that it is not acceptable in our community or our community.
Barghese and other victims say they want a solution that restores security.
“We are looking for the end result so we can feel safe in our city again,” she said.
Despite efforts to hide their identity, Coppel police worked to identify the young suspect. Detectives assigned to the case questioned the teenager on Monday and were able to ultimately present their case to the district attorney on multiple charges of criminal mischief.
