COLLEGE STATION, Texas — After the Texas A&M Aggies fell out of SEC Championship and College Football Playoff contention, Mike Elko turned his attention to recruiting.
With early signing day just around the corner, the Aggies’ first-year coach has a difficult task ahead of him. The recruits he and his staff had been closely monitoring were set to make their final college decisions, and between flips, verbal commitments, and low-key contracts, Texas A&M is looking to move forward on the positive side. I wanted to leave a good result.
It appears that 25 initial signatories have since signed and signed.
“What struck me was that it was a well-rounded class overall. We aimed to sign with the football team and I think we were able to do that,” Elko said during Wednesday’s media availability. he said.
The Aggies’ 2025 class is headlined by five-star receiver Jerome Miles, offensive lineman Lamont Rodgers and four-star running back Jamarion Morrow, among others, and coach Elko This bodes well for the immediate future of Aggieland under his leadership.
The coach immediately commented on that.
“In roster management, you have to balance experienced veterans with youth, growth and the future. We feel our youth is in a really good position,” Elko said.
After a more successful season than last year, the Aggies’ future looks bright. Despite losses to South Carolina, Auburn and Texas, the Maroon & White showed signs of growth and laid the foundation they can build on in year two of the Elco era.
However, distinguishing such a group and culture from the Texas A&M as it was known before Elko’s arrival would be difficult in itself, but Elko’s initial negotiations with the Aggies There didn’t seem to be any problems.
“We really had to work from the ground up to build an image of what Texas A&M should be and what it will be. We wanted to find a winner,” Elko said. When we talk about shutouts, wins, winning championships, it’s become a habit. ”
With that in mind, Texas A&M will continue to look for ways to incorporate those habits into practice and the offseason as it prepares for another chance to make the playoffs. Returning players and upperclassmen will play a big role there, but so will newcomers.
And now that the season is over, Elko will be the first to make sure they hire the right players and form the right kind of culture to compete.
“It takes a lot of work to put together a recruiting class,” the coach said. “And today is the end of a process that started when I was hired, actually before that.
“It starts with the ability to identify the right players and the right people.”
