In Texas, early voting for the 2024 election runs from October 21 to November 1. If you want to vote before Election Day on November 5, be sure to read the state’s early voting guide.
What do I need to vote early?
In Texas, early voting is available to anyone who is registered to vote. You can check if you are registered to vote at VoteTexas.gov. If you are not registered to vote, you can still vote by the deadline on Monday, October 7th.
You will also need to bring one of seven accepted forms of identification to your polling place: a Texas driver’s license, a Texas voter ID, a state personal identification card, a handgun permit, a U.S. military ID, a U.S. citizenship card, or a passport.
Where can I vote early?
You can find out where you can vote early on the Are You Registered? website. Not all polling locations are listed on the website, but they will be posted on the site a few days before early voting begins. You can also contact your county’s early voting office.
How do I vote by mail?
To vote by mail, request an application from your county clerk or apply online at the Texas Secretary of State’s website. The deadline to request a vote by mail is October 25th.
To be eligible to request a mail-in ballot, you must be 65 or older, have a qualifying disability, be expecting to give birth within three weeks of Election Day or be outside of your county during the voting period.
What else should I know before early voting?
Cell phones are not permitted in the polling booths, so be sure to bring handwritten notes with you if there is any information you want to remember when you vote.
You also have the right to ask for assistance if you cannot understand or write the language on your ballot, and you can bring an interpreter to help you.
Additionally, if you make a mistake while filling out your ballot, you are entitled to receive up to two additional ballots.
