TYLER, TX (KLTV) – East Texas artists play a vital role in enriching our culture, fostering creativity and preserving our history.
“I think people appreciate it more if it’s made by a local artist,” says Tyler artist Dais Kidd, “and because people know people from the area, it’s more unique and more valuable.”
Kidd has been involved in over 100 art projects in East Texas over the past 14 years, and her passion for art gives newcomers a glimpse into what East Texas is all about.
“We moved to Tyler four years ago,” Emily Gregg said, “and we noticed how beautiful all the murals were around town.”
In East Texas, we are surrounded by art in many different ways: restaurant murals, street art, art park walls, mosaic art, etc. For Cathy Edmonds, mosaic art is a big passion.
“People here started to appreciate my work not just as a local artist, but just as an artist,” Edmonds says.
Edmonds hopes more people will support East Texas artists.
“Share their work,” Edmonds says. “Share everything you feel like sharing with everyone and encourage others to share it too.”
East Texans can support East Texas artists by attending the Tyler Art Festival on Saturday, September 14th from 11am-6pm.
“It’s important to have people who see and appreciate it,” Kidd says. “We need more of those people. We need more artists, because we can’t exist without each other.”
