Tyler, Texas (KLTV) – What starts with a new relationship, promoting growth and development, can turn into abusive relationships for some teenagers and college students over time.
Love is respected, one of the three teenagers experienced physical, mental or emotional abuse, with 43% of university women reporting abuse.
“These relationships are invaluable when they are based on respect,” said Holly Bruce, CEO of the East Texas Women’s Center.
“Individuals in these relationships actually care about others. We don’t want to naturally let go of those we care about as humans. They have so many personalities. When you are experiencing development, it is difficult for teenagers for that early love,” Bruce said.
In some cases, abuse continues into adulthood.
“Girls who grew up in an abusive home are more likely to grow up to be victims of a relationship, while boys who grew up in an abusive home are more likely to grow up and become perpetrators in a relationship “We’ve seen a lot of effort into the world,” said Jeremy Flowers, Marketing Director for the East Texas Crisis Center.
If you are worried about people you know, you are worried about people you know, such as becoming more modest, showing signs of depression, or realizing that their partner is in control If so, there are things to look for.
“If you see warning signs with friends or children, the most important thing is to let them know you are available and try to talk about healthy boundaries and withholding decisions,” Bruce said. .
These conversations and support groups are the first steps that will help the centre prevent dating abuse.
“The less stigma of talking about it, the more we can make these conversations normal, which can be difficult to have. They may be particularly difficult to navigate on their own. Hmm,” Hana said.
