Ernest Lott was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Anderson County Jail on $500,000 bail.
PALESTINE, Texas — A man is in jail after a shooting at a dollar store in East Texas.
According to the Palestine Police Department, just before 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, officers were called to Dollar General, 601 North Elm Street, for a report of a shooting.
“While responding to the call, officers observed the suspect (later identified as Ernest Lott) walking south on Mallard Street,” PPD said. “Officers took Mr. Lott into custody and located a handgun in his waistband. Officers contacted witnesses at the scene and Mr. Lott was seen heading toward a white truck leaving the store. Witnesses said both the truck and Mr. Lott left the scene. ”
Officers were then informed that a 32-year-old Palestinian man had been taken by private vehicle to hospital for treatment.
“Further investigation revealed that Lott and the victim were known to each other and had exchanged words inside the store,” PPD said. “The victim then left the store and got into the truck as a passenger, and was struck in the ear when Lott fired at the truck.”
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Lott was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Anderson County Jail on $500,000 bail.
