According to a new report in the New York Times, Musk has expanded his company in Texas in recent years, building a variety of factories, warehouses and manufacturing facilities.
The company is headquartered in approximately 1.5 square miles in Boca Chica, with approximately 500 employees, 219 primary residents, and more than 100 children living in renovated corporate housing and temporary housing.
The community has everything from restaurants and schools to medical facilities and the launch pad where the company fires its rockets.

Last month, employees collected signatures and filed a petition calling for a formal leadership election as they seek to incorporate the community into a town called Starbase.
A woman who lives in the community, whose husband works for SpaceX, hopes the petition will pass because she believes their community is “a model of what a new city should be,” the Times reported. told.
She continued, “If this petition all goes through, my baby could be the first child born in this city. That would be pretty amazing!”
Alan Bojórquez, a lawyer who specializes in helping groups of Texas residents incorporate, told the Times that these groups are trying to “prevent their neighborhoods from being swallowed up by expanding cities and, in particular, protect them from undesirable companies.” “We want to prevent this,” he said.
Incorporation would allow Starbase to create a municipal public works system, qualify for state and federal grants, and establish a police and fire department. At best, the city will have to maintain the roads.
