TYLER, TX (KLTV) – On May 10, East Texas Baptist University received a $475,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA).
Scott McCurdy, ETBU’s vice president for advancement and administrative affairs, spoke about how this award will have a profound impact on the East Texas community.
“ETBU is very excited and very proud that the Economic Development Office has awarded our region, Marshall and Harrison counties, a development grant designed to revitalize our economy and workforce and provide critical training to the residents, neighbors and businesses in our area,” McCurdy said.
While the grant is centered in Marshall and Harrison counties, ETBU emphasizes that the benefits will extend beyond those areas.
“We’re East Texas Baptist University, we serve all of East Texas, and we want to help with economic development throughout East Texas,” McCurdy said.
The grant will fund specialized courses focused on improving workforce skills. Some courses could include technical skills, interpersonal skills, communication, etc.
“We want to step in and say, ‘You have great people in your company right now, let’s equip them with the skills they need to advance their careers within our organization,'” McCurdy said. “If they need CV or interview advice, we can step in and provide courses to bring them up to speed and help them champion themselves and land positions to build their lives and careers as part of our community and in the place we call home.”
Although the school has not officially uploaded these courses to the university website, you can contact Scott McCurdy at for direct information on when these classes will be available.
