As the search for the suspect in Aaron Martinez’s murder continues, the victim’s family says they know that the man charged with his murder would do something like this. The Van Zant County Sheriff’s Office said. The suspect removed his ankle monitor and missed his trial start date..
“This was our fear,” said Elizandra Martinez, sister of Aaron Martinez.
Members of the Martinez family said they asked Kaufman County officials to take suspect Trevor Mathun into custody if his release under electronic surveillance was inadequate.
“They said they had everything in their hands, he was monitored, there’s no way he could get away,” Elizandra Martinez said. “He has proven everyone wrong. Now we want him to be found.”
The people of Martinez have always believed that their brothers were victims of hate crimes.
“The family had been waiting for justice for two years, and today was probably the day. “The family is horrible right now.”
McEuen’s trial was scheduled to begin Monday. Kaufman County Criminal District Attorneys said in a statement that McEuen had removed the court-ordered ankle monitor at 5:33am and left his residence.

Incident report showed Martinez has had safety concerns dating back at least to July 2022, when he told police that McEuen pointed a gun at him, fired his property, and threatened an employee. He did not pursue the charges.
McEuen’s father later told police that Martinez also shot the gun in their direction. Arresting documents show that McEuen has admitted to killing Martinez.
McEuen was initially arrested for murder in May 2023 and arrested for $2 million in bonds. Later that month, the judge held a bond reduction hearing, and at one point he posted the bond and was released.
In November 2023, a large ju judge in Kaufman County indicted MCEUEN for murder, and he was arrested again.
On September 6, 2024, court records show that McEuen was released from prison on $1 million in bonds. The judge imposed numerous restrictions on MCEUEN during pre-trial release, including a ban on contacting Martinez’s relatives and going within 200 yards.
Five days later, McEuen is allegedly violated the bond by posting photos of Martinez and the two Martinez relatives on their Instagram accounts. Court documents allege McEuen also threatened to shoot his uncle.
On September 17, 2024, the judge raised McEuen’s bond to $2 million and was again imprisoned. Noriega said McEuen posted the bond in mid-December.
