The Fort Bend County Library is inviting the public to participate in this year’s “Community Reading” initiative, a countywide reading program that encourages the community to read and discuss a particular book together from September through November. The 2024 selection is Stacey Swan’s debut novel, “Olympus, Texas.”
Book discussions about “Olympus, Texas” will be held at various locations throughout the library system on various dates and times in September, October and November. The “Community Read” initiative will culminate with FBCL’s annual Book Festival on Nov. 16, with Swann delivering the keynote address.
Set in a modern-day rural Texas town where everyone knows each other, “Olympus, Texas” weaves elements of ancient Greek and Roman mythology into a modern family story in a tale rich in dramatic and psychological complexity.
The story follows the Briscoe family, whose prodigal son, March, returns from two years of self-imposed exile after being caught cheating with his brother’s wife, and the family once again becomes the talk of the town in a plot that involves death, rivalries simmering, secrets revealed and secrets turned upside down.
