TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– The Rattlers will make a triumphant return to Bragg Memorial Stadium this Saturday for their homecoming game against the Texas Southern Tigers. The Rattlers are fresh off an important win against Southern and enter the game on a 22-game winning streak at home, the second-longest in the nation. Head coach Colzi recognizes the stakes are high as his team looks to maintain its undefeated home record and maintain its edge against Texas Southern, which has lost its last four meetings. I am doing it.
During his weekly press conference, Coach Colzie addressed the unique challenges of homecoming. “Obviously, coming home is an important time here at Florida A&M. It’s a point of pride for our team, our program and our university,” he said. But he remains focused on getting his players ready amidst the extra activities, admitting: “We can’t let a gaffe or anything ruin our chances of continuing to move up the table.”
The Texas Southern Tigers pose a formidable challenge for Tallahassee, especially with an offense centered around a flexible quarterback system. Coach Colzi noted that the Tigers will present a balanced attack no matter who starts at center and will boost the Rattlers’ defense. “They’re creating problems in terms of what they want to do formation-wise,” he explained, adding that Texas Southern’s offense is designed to keep the defense guessing and take advantage of downfield mismatches. He pointed out that there was.
Defensively, the Rattlers have lost three games in a row due to forced turnovers, and Coach Colsey hopes to continue this promising run. He highlighted improved execution on both sides of the ball as a factor, especially with the new chemistry and positioning on defense. Colzi said, “I feel like I haven’t played a complete game yet. I think it would be really scary if I did a complete game,” and expressed high expectations for this showcase on his return.
One key player to watch is special teams standout and receiver Jamari Gassett, who had a great performance last week. Coach Colzi praised Gassett, saying, “He does something special with football,” emphasizing Gassett’s influence on offense and in his return. With opposing defenses focused on containing him, the Rattlers plan to get the ball creatively to Gasset to maximize their chances of scoring.
The Rattlers are reportedly excited about being chosen as their homecoming opponent, especially with Texas Southern head coach Dishman, knowing the Tigers will give them everything they have. There is. Coach Colsey acknowledged Texas Southern’s recent success and the challenges it presents, and responded with respect for his opponent.
When the Rattlers take the field this Saturday, they’ll be cheered on by an excited crowd back at Bragg, eager to see the team extend its winning streak.
