Texas A&M’s defense will be very different next season due to transfer portal departures and players declaring for the NFL Draft, including defensive linemen Nick Skorton, Shemar Stewart and Shemar Turner. It could become something.
Coach Mike Elko and his team addressed this issue this offseason by bringing in three new defensive linemen through the transfer portal. That includes former Georgia edge rusher Samuel Pemba, who decided to redshirt his final season in Athens, Georgia.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Mpemba has officially signed with Texas A&M and will be ready for the spring football season.
A top-100 recruit in the class of 2023, Mpemba’s future at Georgia became uncertain after he appeared in 11 games and recorded just six tackles during his freshman season in 2023. But his decision to redshirt was the smartest move before joining a new program.
With his size, speed and obvious potential, Mpemba may seem like a project to some. But pairing up with former Pitt/Colorado Edge Dayon Hayes and former Florida defensive end TJ Searcy should make Elko and his defensive staff feel good. However, they need to add more depth to the interior of their defense.
