Another Longhorn has been added to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Football and track and field star Eric Metcalf was inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2017 on Tuesday, becoming the 18th former Longhorn to receive the honor. Metcalf was one of seven inductees, including volleyball star Rita “Buck” Crockett, Texas A&M defensive back Dave Elmendorf and NFL defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

Metcalf was a three-time All-Southwest Conference selection during his time at Texas and was named SWC Player of the Year in 1987. That season he ran for 1,161 yards and 10 touchdowns, en route to a Heisman Trophy promotion (see below). Metcalf was also the NCAA long jump champion in 1986 and ’88.
Metcalf played 13 seasons in the NFL after being selected 13th overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 1989 draft. He was best known for his returning ability, finishing his career with over 3,400 punt returns, over 5,800 kick returns and 12 return touchdowns.
