Hook ’em Easton…
Or maybe Texas could pull an Easton.
That’s exactly what happened recently when Corsicana’s Easton Autry, one of the top elite players in the class of 2026, committed to continue his baseball career at the University of Texas at Austin.
The Longhorns and new coach Jim Schlossnagel are excited to acquire Autry, who verbally committed to Texas A&M University as a freshman when Schlossnagel was the Aggies coach.
Easton committed to A&M in July when the coaching staff changed hands to explore other colleges and settled on Austin, but Schlossnagle added three new commitments last week.
Easton is only a junior and has two more years before he plays at Dish Fork College, but the way Autry swings the bat means there’s no doubt he’ll still have a big decision to make when he is selected in the summer of 2026 MLB Draft.
His powerful swing and discipline at the plate were almost predictable because he grew up under one of the best hitting coaches in the country: Corsicana High School coach Heath Autry, who compiled more than 400 high school victories during his legendary career.
Easton’s older brother, Hunter, also a left-handed slugger, was an all-state player for the Tigers and led Corsicana to the state tournament as a sophomore in 2019. His junior season was marred by the COVID pandemic in 2020, but he bounced back with a bang, being named district and Golden Circle MVP, Dallas Morning News All-Metroplex First Team and 5A All-State first baseman as a senior.
Hunter is currently a senior at Sam Houston State University and is batting .283 with 10 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .337 on-base percentage.
Easton, who has played for select teams across the country, was ranked among the top 50 sophomores in the country last spring. He had a stellar career at Corsicana, where he was named the 2024 District 14-5A Offensive Player of the Year and the 2024 Golden Circle Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.
He’s a phenomenal .400 hitter who posted an impressive .583 on-base percentage, .693 slugging percentage and 1.276 OPS last spring. Easton had 26 runs scored and 31 RBIs in 39 games.
He was also one half of Corsicana’s one-two punch on the mound, going 3-0 with one save and a 1.12 ERA last spring. He enrolled at Texas A&M University as a freshman and was named to the 5A All-State team as a sophomore.
On Friday, Easton committed to UT.
He posted this on X:
“I am honored and excited to announce that I will continue my academic and baseball career at the University of Texas. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and everyone who supported me. I thank God for giving me this opportunity. Good luck.”
