TEXAS (COWS) – Governor Greg Abbott highlighted the rapid growth of Texas’ energy industry and the state’s progress toward increasing power capacity in 2024.

Earlier this year, Governor Abbott celebrated groundbreaking in Maxwell for the Lower Colorado River Authority’s two new peaker power plants that will add hundreds of megawatts of power to the Texas power grid.

The first of the two power plants is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in 2025, according to the governor’s office.
Governor Greg Abbott’s office announced in July that he and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick had released a statement regarding the future of the Texas Energy Fund.
The Texas Energy Fund is offering $5 billion in low-interest loans to build more dispatchable natural gas plants. The governor and lieutenant governor are seeking to expand the budget to $10 billion to build more power plants.
Last month, the final report of the Texas New Reactor Task Force was released. According to the governor’s office, the report addressed Texas’ plans to build an advanced nuclear power industry.
