Brownwood, Texas – The City of Brownwood is recognized by Travel Texas as a tourism-friendly Texas accredited community.
The newly developed program was created to encourage the Texas community to strengthen its efforts towards promotion of tourism and development.
Gov. Governor Greg Abbott congratulated the achievement, highlighting the importance of tourism.
“Tourism is important to both the local and state economy, supporting 11 jobs in Texas,” Gov. Abbott said. “Texas travelers create an annual economic impact of over $193 billion and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. Every region in this great state offers endless opportunities to experience the beauty of nature, rich history and true Texas hospitality that attracts visitors to our community.”

Ray Tipton, director of economic development and tourism for Brownwood City, said the designation presents the community’s dedication.
“Our community is proud to be recognized as a tourism-friendly Texas destination,” Tipton said. “This certification reflects the dedication of our staff, businesses and community partners in making Brownwood a welcoming home for visitors. Tourism plays an important role in our community, helping local businesses and enhancing the visitor and residents’ experience.”

Travel Texas director Tim Fennell said the city has tourism options for people of all ages and interests.
“Whether you’re eating on a restored train, paddling along the Pecan Bayou, or catching shows in beautifully preserved 1920s theatres, Brownwood offers a folding experience,” Fennell said. “This designation as a tourism-friendly Texas community recognizes the city’s dedication to making every visit feel like home.”

Mayor Stephen Haynes said Brownwood is more than just a city.

Another large country city that received this designation is Abilene, and is early.
