Texas A&M’s 2025 Maroon & White Spring Game is set on Saturday afternoons. For manager Mike Elko and his staff, the game will serve as a final opportunity to assess the regular season roster this month, starting quarterback Marcel Reid’s advances during the Aggies’ 1-4 finish to the 2024 season.
This week, Elko spoke to the media about Lead’s progress and looked at his footwork, confidence and downfield vision. At the same time, the weapons added to the wide receiver and tight end will help him improve overall during his first full-starting season.
“The challenge for Marcel (Reid) is that he wants to take the next step as a passerby, and we want him to take the next step to get where we want to go and what we want to be.”
“He’s throwing the ball more and more comfortably. He was throwing the ball the other day and doing really good scrimmage.”
Lead’s performance will be center stage, but there are depth issues with Texas A&M’s defensive tackle rotation. DJ Hicks, Albert Regis, former Iowa DL Tyler Onierdam looks like a starter who needs to play more snaps if Elko doesn’t deal with the position of the Spring Transfer Portal.
However, the safety room, which consists of the secondary, in particular Bryce Anderson, Dalton Brooks, Marcus Ratcliffe, Miles Davis and Jared Kerr, needs to improve coverage and tackle in particular, compared to their performances last season.
Finally, outside the Texas A&M’s revamped wide receiver room, he’ll be in the spotlight after the offseason when sophomore Rueben Owens suffered two injuries. Here’s how you can see people not participating in the game ahead of Saturday’s game:
