NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Gunnar Helm said he had done it before and he wanted to do it again.
Titans have a real focus on culture changers when drafting, Helm said. He is part of a big turnaround with the Texans and Longhorns and wants to help with the same in Nashville.
“When I arrived at the University of Texas, I was an 18-year-old,” he said. “I stepped into a very broken culture, a very broken team. I was able to help shift the locker room from a very young age. One thing I think I have in the armory is that I can do it from a very young age, no matter what level I am on.
“Connecting with guys on a deeper level using the techniques and practices that Coach Sark had for us to build that culture at the University of Texas will be something that will be with me not only throughout my football career, but my post-football career.”
Cam Ward called Gunnar Helm very quickly, but he was still on the phone with #titans. The text continued.

Helm did a combine prep in Nashville and felt good in town, but I didn’t think Titan was the team he was taking him with.
Blake Bedding Field on Helm:
Good size. Average speed and explosion. Good hands. You need to learn to separate the zone receiver and the human. Good instinct and recognition in the field. Type type runners do not run away from most defenders. You need to continue to add strength to the frame for inline blocks. Solid No. 2 types of TE.
James Foster on Helm:
positive:
• 2 drops to 95 career goals
•You can track the ball and make it a high point to get competing targets
Understand how to manipulate leverage and set up his break
Fluid and smooth athletes with above average separation ability
• Sink your hips and slow down quickly on the stop route
• Consistently perform efficient cuts and separation from breaks
Strong and elusive after catching
• Feel the defender crashing at catch point & miss the first tackler frequently
•Vividness to perform down/reach/slice/climbing blocks and play multiple TE positions
High-effective blocker with final mentality
Slide speed and play strength to maintain path protection
negative:
Sub-average straight line athlete
Smooth, but not overly explosive
• Strike timing and hand placement should be improved as a run blocker
•I wasn’t productive until my fourth year at university
• You need to add weight to play inline, but you’re already a mediocre athlete from 245-250 pounds
Disastrous combined performance
