Want a racing series, football team, or baseball team to walk into a bar and order some street racing? Penske Entertainment announced today that IndyCar is partnering with the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers to bring racing to Texas in March 2026. A new street race will be held on the streets of Arlington. The Grand Prix of Arlington is held on a 4.43-mile track that winds through the streets. Sports and entertainment district of the city.
Strangely, IndyCar did not release any further information in its announcement, instead noting that a “celebratory ceremony” would be held at a venue near AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field on Tuesday. According to a press release, “Additional details about the proposed event will be announced at the ceremony, including a video showcasing the entire track layout.” In other words, today’s surprise announcement may be a preview of a big surprise.
It’s worth highlighting the timing of this proposed race, as it will be interesting to see if it will be held before or after the traditional season opener in St. Petersburg, Florida. Or will it be replaced by the thermal debacle? IndyCar has long been criticized for having long gaps of more than a month between the first and second races of the season, but this year it will hold a non-points race on thermals, fitting a local kart. We tried to rectify that gap by celebrating the podium. Tracking.
Perhaps the Arlington race will finally give the series a proper start to the season with two serious points-earning races in March, giving the Downtown Nashville race the much-loved feel it has given us for two years. It could bring back street action. One line. And, needless to say, the IndyCar equivalent of the Miami F1 GP was born.
It looks like the answers to these questions will have to wait until tomorrow.
