No. 54 Iowa lost 4-2 to No. 13 Texas Tech on the road on Sunday. Iowa State is located 7-3 after the loss and closes a three-game road trip.
Texas Tech has always been 28-3 against the Cyclone, and Iowa has been winning at Lubbock.
Red Raiders No. 76 was the first to attack the pairing of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif. In the third court, they beat Iowa sophomore Suzanne Pretorius and sophomore Valesca San Martin Ramirez 6-1.
In the second court, Texas Tech’s Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy scored doubles points. They beat Cyclone freshmen Julia Cambler and Mari Pas Alberto Viller 6-1.
Camblor evened out the match with a singles victory. In second place, Cambler beat Maria Frahola 7-5, 6-1.
Lila responded for the Red Raiders. Iowa State’s Christina Ramos Sierra won her first set but was unable to get back on track. Lila scored 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in Court 4.
Dmitrichenko added fuel to the fire and extended the Texas Tech lead. Vilar stayed competitive, but eventually fell to the third set. In the third court, Dmitrichenko won 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
No. 81 senior Anna Spa Pitch Quairam floated a cyclone. Quaeram fought back after losing the first set. On the top spot, she defeated Abelina Sefetdinova 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
However, Quaeram’s victory will be in vain. Texas Tech Sheriff scored the victory on Court No. 6. Sheriff has surpassed Cyclone Ramirez’s 4-6, 6-2, and 6-2.
Iowa owned its own Texas Tech University. In enemy territory, Cyclone was able to win several singles matches and remain competitive with the top 15 teams in the country.
Iowa is aiming to bounce back at 4pm on Friday, hosting Arizona.
