FORT WORTH – TCU basketball trailblazer Janice Ziuk will be inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
Jiuk is one of eight members voted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024. She is the first TCU women’s basketball player to be inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
“When I received the phone call informing me of my induction into the SWC Hall of Fame, I was surprised and excited at the same time,” Jiwook said. “I am truly honored to be recognized alongside such deserving people. It is one of the most meaningful honors I have ever received.”
Jiuk played on the court at Daniel Meyer Coliseum from 1986 to 1990. The Posse, Texas native brought numerous individual firsts to the Horned Frogs women’s basketball team during her playing days.
She was the first and only player in program history to receive All-Southwest Conference honors, earning the honor as a senior in 1990. She was later selected to the Southwest Conference All-Decade Team of the 1980s. Jiuk averaged 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game during her four-year tenure at Fort Worth.
“I am proud to have had the opportunity to compete in such a prestigious conference,” Jiuk said. “It is a conference rich in tradition and history and attracts top athletes. It is truly an honor to be counted among them and to represent TCU in the SWC Hall of Fame. I am truly happy to be a part of SWC history!”
Jiuk’s trailblazing achievements continued after her playing days ended: She was the first of four TCU women’s basketball players to be inducted into the TCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and was one of two players, along with Sandra Irvin, to have their uniforms retired at Schollmeyer Arena.
During her senior year, Jiuk was named SWC Scholar Athlete, TCU Female Athlete of the Year, TCU Pop Boone Athlete of the Year and served as team captain. She averaged career-bests of 18.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
In the 1989-90 season, Jiuk became just the second Horned Frog player to reach 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds, and graduated with 1,448 career points and 778 career rebounds.
Jiwook’s name and accomplishments remain etched in the TCU women’s basketball record books. Her career rebounds are the fifth-most in team history. She also ranks in the top 15 in career rebounds (6th), season scoring average (6th, 18.6 points), field goals made (7th, 545) and points (14th).
The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame induction ceremony and luncheon will be held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco. The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is one of four separate halls of fame housed within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame building.
