Vice President Kamala Harris will speak in Houston on Wednesday, and former President Donald Trump is set to return to the state for his first rally there since surviving an assassination attempt in Butler earlier this month.
The White House announced that Harris will speak at Sigma Gamma Rho’s 60th annual International Biennial Boulet in Houston on Wednesday. Founded in 1922, Sigma Gamma Rho is one of nine historic black sororities and fraternities commonly referred to as the Divine Nine. Harris herself is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, another branch of the Divine Nine.
The vice president’s appearance at a Sigma Gamma Rho event marks her third visit to Texas in the past month and her second time speaking at a Divine Nine convention since launching her presidential campaign. Last week, Vice President Harris appeared in Indiana, speaking at Zeta Phi Beta’s Grand Boule in Indianapolis, and also gave the keynote address at Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Boule in Dallas before President Joe Biden decided not to seek reelection.
In addition to her appearance at Sigma Gamma Rho, Harris will speak at another political event in Houston at 6:15 p.m., according to the White House.
While Harris is in Houston, her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, will attend campaign events on Wednesday in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Yarmouth, Maine, according to the White House. Harris will remain in Houston on Thursday to deliver the eulogy at the funeral of former U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who died of cancer earlier this month.
The Harris campaign had no events scheduled in Pennsylvania as of Tuesday afternoon, but Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is reportedly considered a leading candidate to be Harris’ running mate, is reportedly planning to meet with key Harris allies at two events in the Hamptons over the weekend, according to The New York Times and CNBC.
Meanwhile, Trump is scheduled to appear at a rally on Wednesday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The indoor rally comes less than three weeks after suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, opened fire at a Trump rally in Butler, killing former Buffalo Township Fire Chief Corey Comperatore and wounding Trump and two others.

The Harrisburg rally will also feature Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick, who is scheduled to speak around 4 p.m. McCormick’s appearance comes amid a closely watched race against Democratic Sen. Bob Casey, who leads McCormick by about 13 percentage points, according to a recent Fox News poll.
Trump said last week that he plans to hold another rally in Butler to honor Comperatore and two others who were wounded July 13. Details of when the rally will take place have not yet been released by his campaign.
Ahead of his planned speech in Pennsylvania, Trump is also scheduled to attend the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual convention in Chicago. As part of the event, Trump will take part in what the association describes as a conversation with political journalists focusing on issues that affect the black community. The event will be closed to the public, but will be livestreamed on the National Association of Black Journalists’ YouTube and Facebook pages beginning at approximately 1 p.m. ET.
Mr. Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, is scheduled to attend a rally in Glendale, Arizona, while Mr. Trump is in Pennsylvania.
The two are scheduled to appear together at a rally planned for Saturday in Atlanta, according to the Trump campaign website, just days after Ms Harris is scheduled to rally in the city on Tuesday.
