Kilgore College was recently awarded a $150,000 emergency aid grant to be distributed over three years from the Greater Texas Foundation. The grant will provide emergency aid funding to students along with technical assistance to improve KC’s emergency aid program.
“We are so grateful to the Greater Texas Foundation for this opportunity. This grant will allow us to provide direct emergency assistance services to students as well as provide intensive training for our staff,” said Ebony Dennis, KC’s dean of support services and student retention. “Our overall goal is to help students stay in school and achieve their educational goals.”
The Greater Texas Foundation is a private foundation based in Bryan that supports efforts to ensure that all Texas students are prepared for, have access to, persist in and complete higher education.
Since its founding in 2001, the Foundation has approved more than $150 million in grants to support Texas students. For more information, visit www.greatertexasfoundation.org.
“We believe that to best support students throughout their higher education journey, institutions must build strong support systems for students experiencing financial difficulties, and a key component of such a support system is emergency aid,” said Sue McMillin, president and CEO of the Greater Texas Foundation. “If implemented according to best practices, emergency aid can make the difference between a student leaving college without a degree or graduating from college.”
