Director Pedro Lopez said the officers originally went to the house for a “consensual interview.” With the US Secret Service.
KILLEEN, Texas – The Killeen Police Department is currently investigating a shooting involving officials. Police said the shooting occurred in the 2600 block of Larissa Drive.
Chief Pedro Lopez said the 24-year-old man was shot multiple times by police. He was taken to the hospital in danger.
Lopez said police went to the house to support the Secret Service in the US in what they called “consensus interviews.”
“When[the officers]entered the house, they met someone in the house who was the target of the investigation,” Lopez said. “For the safety of the officers, they decided to pat the suspects, when they discovered he had a semi-automatic, semi-automatic firearm in his pocket. At that time, the officers abandoned the firearms that hit the suspects several times.”
According to a KPD press release, there were three KPD officers and two USSS agents, and were put inside as residents of the home.
Lopez said two officers fired weapons, but it is unclear which officer shot the suspect. According to Lopez, the officer was not injured.
Officers and Secret Service agents reportedly provided assistance until paramedics arrived, and the suspect was flying to Baylor Scott & White in a critical condition, but was stable, according to Killeen police.
Police said the area was safe as of 5pm on Thursday. Police say KPD’s criminal investigation unit is investigating the shooting and the Ministry of Home Affairs will be conducting a management review. The Bell County District Attorney’s Office is reportedly supporting it.
Authorities say the suspect’s name will not be made public until a formal charge is filed.
