Since arriving at KWTX in September 2019, Darbies has covered multiple state championships, college titles, and even the National Men’s Basketball Championship.
She’s packed many big moments into her years, but what Darby will probably be remembered for most is the way she reported on people.
“Derby has always championed what we believe is the next generation of sports coverage, which means more than just highlights, to crafting stories about the people and places that love the game,” KWTX General Manager Josh・Young stated.
“Built on a Name,” Derby’s series examining the history behind local stadium names, resonated with Central Texans from small towns to big towns. Nominated for an Emmy Award.
Darby was also named Best Sports Anchor by the Texas Broadcasting Corporation.

She has been on the sidelines for two Sugar Bowls.
Derby gave viewers all the excitement back when Baylor men’s basketball won the national championship in Indianapolis in 2021 under head coach Scott Drew.
Darby has been on the front lines covering dozens of youth games, from college to high school, even during the coronavirus pandemic.
Darby reported on the state soccer championships between Lorena and China Spring High School.

Darby covered La Vega’s girls basketball team as they took home the title and reported on the parade that followed as the entire town celebrated.
Former KWTX anchor Dan Ingham has worked with Darby for the past few years on KWTX’s Thursday night broadcasts of high school football games.
He said she was really talented.
“Derby is a really special station,” Mr Ingham said. “I have been fortunate enough to work with her on Thursday Night Football games the last few years. During the Big 12 Championship in Arlington in 2021, doing the pregame show, I knew she would be really talented in broadcasting, and she was a young sports director at the time, so to speak, but she had a lot of more experienced announcers. held his ground in a major way.”
Darby said he is grateful for his time in Waco.
“There were so many big events,” Darby recalled. “I feel very lucky and grateful, and I loved telling stories.”
Derby’s final extra point Friday night high school football show is tonight.
Her final stint on KWTX will be Baylor Gameday Live at 9 a.m. Saturday as the Bears prepare to take on BYU.
