Lake Charles, LA. – Despite three runs in seven innings, East Texas A&M University ended the series on Saturday afternoon, falling 6-3 to McNeese Cowgirl, leading the conference at Cowgirl Diamond.
This loss could be 34-17 overall, 20-4 in SLC action and 9-0 against the Lions in the season, playing three games, 5-19 at the Southland Conference.
Heading into the final conference series next weekend, the Lions will lead A&M-Corpus Christi one game to take part in the eight-team conference tournament at the final spot, and similarly hold a tiebreaker.
On Saturday, Reese Reina singled a single through the left side to lead the second bottom. Brylie Fontenot singled a single on a slow single and went second as Reyna advanced to third place. After a walk where Sarah Allen loaded the bases without an out, Reina scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Bailey Dunham.

Dunham and Kassidy Chance roamed in succession to load the bases, while Nyjah Fontenot plated all three runners and scored on plays even with errors by the Lions.
All three runs of the Lions game came in the seventh. Emmy Miehe (Cameron Park, California) singled to the right, with Derby Hickey (Plano Senior) coming in as a pinch hitter and doubled to center on the right.
After a pitching change, Stephanie Tapia (Yuma, Arizona) singled left and plated Miehe. Neveah Terrell (Pensauken, New Jersey) appeared as a pinch runner for Tapia. The Cowgirls scored two outs in double play, then Aliya Wilcox (Covington, Georgia) hit their second home run of the season.
The Lions left seven runners at the base of the game throughout the first six innings, with the Cowgirl leaving eight. Wilcox went 4-2 in the game, Maddie Casson (Honey Grove) was 2-2, and Miehe went 3-2 for the Lions.
Nyjah Fontenot had two of the six Cowgirl hits. Ryan Shacksnyder collected victory in McNees’ circle and allowed the run he scored in six innings.
In the case of the Lions, Kate Hauser (Lorena) was charged with five run scored in 3.1 innings.
